Osaka is home to countless well-regarded kappo restaurants, and some of the best in the whole country, but one sticks out more than the others. Recently, a dining style which is less structured and more casual than kaiseki has been a huge hit. Shimanouchi Ichiyo has taken up this style, along with a characteristic emphasis on seasonal ingredients.
Not only that, this kappo restaurant takes specialty to a whole new level by largely sourcing their seafood ingredients from Japan's Inland Sea. There's no fixed menu due to the ever-changing seasonal catches, but diners can look forward to original creations like sea bream marinated in flavorful kelp, simmered abalone with tofu skin, grilled eel, and steamed sea bream bones. Wash them down with a glass of your preferred drink — Shimanouchi Ichiyo has a great selection of Japanese sake and shochu as well as wines.
On top of the reasonable prices, the late-night hours at Shimanouchi Ichiyo reels in the customers. Their flair for presentation is extremely impressive as well, from carefully put-together dishes to tableware and design. Enjoy an intimate and warming environment only at the best-loved kappo restaurant in the whole city.
