Sushi Nanoumi
At Sushi Nanoumi, traditional Edomae sushi leads the way, but the impressive sea urchin-tasting experience steals the spotlight.
Restaurant Details
Every morning, you’ll find the owner of Sushi Nanoumi making his trip from his Yokohama restaurant to Toyosu Market. Years of experience guide him in sifting through the abundant catch of the day and selecting only the finest seafood for the upcoming omakase. Here, there’s no compromise on quality.
This meticulous attention to detail is what sets Sushi Nanoumi apart, where the essence of time-honored Edomae sushi breaths to life in Japan’s waterfront city. Despite being just a two-minute walk from Yokohama Station, the restaurant isolates you from the crowd. The serene ambiance sets the stage for the upcoming meal, and a smooth, seven-meter counter fits only ten guests.
The true star of Sushi Nanoumi, however, is the sea urchin-tasting access. The premium omakase course offers a chance to savor various high-grade sea urchins, such as the deep-orange bafun harvested from the cold waters of Hokkaido, or the lighter-hued saltwater murasaki sea urchin from Aomori and Miyagi Prefecture (murasaki urchin is known for its more delicate flavor). Tasting is best enjoyed at the counter, where you'll come face-to-face with the chef who might show you the impressive array of sea urchin trays beforehand.
As the omakase progresses, guests are treated to generous sushi options including fresh fatty tuna, scallops, squid, and conger eel — although, true to the spirit of omakase, there’s no guaranteeing what the sushi will be. The art is in letting the chef steer the dining experience, so always expect the unexpected.
