Founded in 1977, Meiji no Yakata used to be a western-style cottage house in the 19th century for F.W. Horn. He is known for introducing the gramophone, better known as the record player, to Japan. Given the restaurant’s historic value, it's registered as a national tangible cultural property.
The restaurant’s exterior and interior build is western-influenced, with indoor and outdoor seating. Their unique menu consists of classic western style dishes with a Japanese touch, such as the hamburg steak, hashed beef rice, and beef stew. The skilled chefs insist on using local ingredients, so you can eat freshly made meals with hints of local flavors. As part of the restaurant’s vast menu of the Meiji era western-influenced dishes, Tochigi wagyu beef can also be enjoyed at Meiji no Yakata.
