Restaurant Details
Despite being right by Osaka Station, Kyushu Sakaba Tsukushi is making a proper tribute to Kyushu's vibrant dining scene.
It might be a bold move, especially since Osaka takes pride in its own local gourmet scene (the city is already billed as "The Kitchen of Japan"), but consider the restaurant a humble Kyushu envoy. This soft diplomacy is reflected in the space, inspired by a Kyushu izakaya. Half-length noren curtains hang between circular wooden beams, while an L-shaped counter is adorned with local ceramics and bottles of regional sake and shochu. The ambiance is unpretentious yet inviting, with an open kitchen for live-action dining.
The menu takes many of its cues from the region’s eight prefectures, transforming local ingredients into deliciously multilayered plates. For example, the course may feature Nichinan chicken, delivered fresh from Miyazaki Prefecture, cleverly transformed into charcoal-grilled morsels, rapid-seared into tataki or stirred into a comforting porridge made with the same rich chicken broth.
The meal might continue with a triumphant parade of delicacies, such as Kumamoto’s special horse sashimi, elevated with soy sauce, vegetable rolls stuffed with ripe tomatoes from Miyazaki, and black pork from Kagoshima. Beef steaks and other protein dishes are cleverly paired with fresh vegetables from Kyushu, all complemented by an extensive collection of local sake, craft beer and shochu cultured in its regional breweries.
Kyushu Sakaba Tsukushi KITTE Osaka’s all-around excellent cooking might have you booking flights out of Osaka before you’ve even settled the bill.
Menus are available in English and Chinese for international visitors.
The Kamameshi Kaiseki Course showcases the region's local ingredients and traditional cooking techniques in a full, 18-course kaiseki progression, beginning with starters, followed by an array of fried, grilled and sashimi dishes.
