Originally designed as a private villa for the Imperial Family, Kikka-So, located in the historic Fujiya Hotel, serves seasonal kaiseki worthy of royalty.
Restaurant Details
Located inside the 140-year-old Fujiya Hotel in Hakone, which is already one of the oldest lodgings in Japan, Kikka-so was built in 1895 as a private villa for the Imperial Family. The venue breathes to life the sublime beauty through its tranquil garden and traditional architecture.
Over a century later, the space remains as relevant as ever, and has now been transformed into a traditional Japanese restaurant that delves deeply into Japan’s flavors. The limited-edition lunch set, presented in a two-tiered box, highlights classic Japanese cooking. The full kaiseki course elegantly captures the seasonal calendar, featuring dishes like delicate Japanese butterfish grilled with ginger and succulent Soshu beef sirloin. For vegetarian diners, there are delights such as grilled eggplant, radish cake, matsutake mushrooms and Japanese broth steamed in a teapot.
Kikka-So's atmosphere is equally enchanting. The restaurant's tasteful interior and window views of the famous garden evoke a sense of opulence and serenity. It's all a reminder that Fujiya Hotel has aged very, very well.
