Take a break from exploring the streets of Asakusa and enter the colorful world of traditional Japanese confectionaries (wagashi) with Yuko, a passionate instructor and wagashi expert. These delicate works of art are more than just sweet snacks — they are cultural symbols of Japan’s seasons and nature. In this class, you’ll also explore new possibilities for flavor by pairing your handmade delights with a variety of sake provided by the venue.
First, Yuko will briefly introduce the history of wagashi and the different tools and ingredients used to craft them. Yuko is a professional wagashi-making instructor and founder of a confectionery institute certified by the Wagashi Promotion Association of Japan. She is passionate about sharing Japanese culture through the art and joy of these delicate confectioneries. Under her guidance and expertise, you’ll craft two pieces of traditional and modern wagashi inspired by the seasons.
Wagashi sweets are crucial in traditional tea ceremonies and can also be enjoyed with sake. You’ll also experience how sake complements the mellow sweetness of wagashi in this class. Explore the versatility of flavors as you sip on three different types of sake for an exquisite marriage of sensations.
