Experience Details
If you have ever wanted to see where the freshest sushi comes from, here’s your chance! This experience allows you to learn about the most famous fish market in Japan, Tsukiji Market!
The tour begins at Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple - one of the largest temples in Tokyo. This temple has several unique features such as stained glass windows and animal sculptures that are not commonly seen in Japanese temples.
Next, you will venture to Tsukiji Outer Market. This market was opened in 1935 and until recently was the largest wholesale fish market in Tokyo. There are over 360 establishments, home to a mix of wholesalers, restaurants, shops, market stalls, and other businesses, some of which can trace their history back to the market’s beginning. Following the tour of the market, you will learn about the history and culture of sushi and then learn to make your own with the guidance of the instructor.
Although it typically takes several years to master sushi, with this experience, you will be able to master the basics within a few hours with the help of rice-molding kits. You will learn to make three different types of delicious sushi: nigiri sushi (classic hand-molded sushi), gunkan maki (sushi wrapped in nori seaweed), and hosomaki sushi (thin sushi rolls).
The classes are very flexible and can be tailored to your abilities. Once you have finished making the sushi, the instructor will teach you all about the condiments related to sushi, as well as introduce you to Japanese dining etiquette.
