Experience Details
Now a worldwide staple, the hamburger steak, originally from Germany, first appeared in Japan in the 1880s and boomed in popularity in the 1960s. It's now a core fusion dish in Japan, with high-end and family restaurants serving this comfort dish tweaked to suit Japanese tastes. In this class, you'll earn a quintessentially Japanese recipe for a healthy patty steak made with tofu and ground chicken.
Hosts Arisa and Maya will be in charge of teaching you the ropes. These sisters, born in Canada but raised in Osaka, inherited a passion for cooking from their grandmother, who owned a shabu-shabu (Japanese hot pot) restaurant, and they love nothing more than bringing guests a fun, memorable Japanese food experience.
After meeting with your hosts at the pre-arranged meeting point, you'll head to the cooking venue, where the fun begins! You'll make your hamburger patty with tofu, ground chicken, egg, flour, spices, and breadcrumbs. To complete the meal, you'll make miso soup and potato salad side dishes, with Arisa and Maya walking you through every step. After the food is ready, you'll make some wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) and enjoy your homemade meal together.
