Experience Details

There’s so much to explore in the world of Japan’s traditional confectionery (wagashi). These sweets invigorate the senses with intricate presentations, seasonal motifs, and delicate sweetness. Join sisters and food lovers Arisa and Maya as they teach you to make three popular wagashi sweets: fruit daifuku, matcha warabimochi, and dorayaki in this class in central Osaka.

Fruit daifuku is a soft mochi rice cake filled with sweet bean paste and cut fruit, a chewy treat with a juicy punch that makes this one of Japan’s most celebrated snacks. Warabimochi is a clear jelly-like confectionery usually sprinkled with sweet kinako (soybean flour) or matcha syrup. Dorayaki is a popular Japanese dessert with sweet red bean paste sandwiched between two pancakes.

After meeting with your hosts, you’ll head to the cooking venue for a class briefing and self-introduction. Then, you’ll get to work making these three kinds of sweets with guidance from your hosts! After you make your delectable sweets, Arisa and Maya will walk you through a relaxed, casual tea ceremony. The bitterness of matcha green tea complements the light sweetness of wagashi, creating a delightful experience for all senses. You will receive the recipes to impress friends and family with your sweet-making skills back home.
