Experience Details
Walk the streets of Osaka, and you'll come across dozens of okonomiyaki and yakisoba restaurants and food stalls. A quintessential food of Osaka, okonomiyaki is a savory grilled pancake made with eggs, flour, shredded cabbage and other vegetables, and meat or seafood. True to its name – "okonomi" means "to your liking" – this dish is usually customized with sauces and toppings. The stir-fried noodle dish yakisoba is another street food classic. Both are easy to make, and this cooking class will teach you all you need to recreate these comfort dishes in your own kitchen.
After meeting your hosts at the designated meeting point, you'll make your way to the cooking venue. Put on an apron, roll up your sleeves, and prepare to cook as your hosts Arisa and Maya walk you step by step through each recipe and show you the Osaka twist on these classic dishes. Finally, enjoy your hard work with a can of beer or chu-hi (shochu highball) and two side dishes (the exact contents of which vary depending on the season.)
Arisa and Maya are sisters born in Canada and raised in Osaka. They inherited a love of food from their grandmother, who owned a shabu-shabu (Japanese hot pot) restaurant. Combined with their passion for travel and food, they do their best to bring guests an authentic Japanese food experience in a fun, cozy atmosphere.
