Experience Details

Both Japanese tea ceremony and calligraphy have roots in China, developing over centuries into cherished Japanese traditions. This workshop in Osaka includes both the creative and elegant practice of Japanese calligraphy and the precise and mindful tea ceremony in an exceptional experience.

You’ll start with the basics of calligraphy, learning to hold the brush and writing your name and favorite Japanese words using Japanese ink. You can practice several times until you get the strokes just right!

Afterward, you’ll move to a tea ceremony tatami room. You’ll have the unique opportunity to grind matcha leaves with a stone grinder, a traditional method said to best preserve the freshness and flavor of matcha.

The tea master will serve you Japanese sweets and prepare matcha in front of you before you learn to whisk the tea yourself, which you can offer back to the master, give to other participants, or enjoy on your own.
