Experience Details
Western Japan is the cradle of some of the country's most celebrated street foods, while Okinawa, a chain of islands in southernmost Japan, is celebrated for its lush naturescapes and paradisiac seaside views. This experience brings together the best of both as you learn to make two traditional foods from Western Japan — okonomiyaki and takoyaki — in a cooking class with mesmerizing views of the seaside of Okinawa's main island.
Using fresh and appetizing ingredients, you'll learn to make two delicious dishes guided by a professional chef. Okonomiyaki is a savory pancake consisting of a batter of chopped cabbage mixed with flour, egg, and dashi broth. It is typically topped with meat or seafood and then browned on a teppan grill. While it's enjoyed across Japan, its most famous variations are in the Osaka and Hiroshima styles. Takoyaki is another popular street food from Osaka, consisting of grilled balls of batter filled with octopus and other ingredients, such as pickled ginger. Both okonomiyaki and takoyaki are beloved Japanese comfort foods that have been seeing worldwide fame in recent years.
Your host, a professional chef and owner of 89 Coffee, will teach you all you need to know to master these two dishes. In this class, you'll also learn about Japanese culture, language, ingredients, cooking techniques and recipes.
