Experience Details
While many regions of Japan have their own take on soba noodles, none are quite like Okinawa's. Unlike traditional buckwheat-based soba, Okinawa's is made with firm wheat noodles, similar to ramen or udon. Topped with hearty pork chops, ginger and spring onions, this savory noodle dish, usually prepared with a shoyu (soy sauce) base, is rich and colorful, much like Okinawa itself.
In this cooking class, you'll learn not one but two traditional Okinawan recipes. Led by a professional chef and cafe owner, you'll learn how to make Okinawa-style rice as well as Okinawa-style soba noodles. A classic meal in every household, Okinawa-style rice was originally a dish intended for Obon celebrations in August, but it evolved into a staple for which many families have their own recipe. Enjoy making these two local specialties and indulge in your delicious meal while contemplating pristine views of the nearby ocean.
