Origin
Taste Yawatahama’s freshest seafood prepared with techniques developed and inspired by French cuisine at ORIGIN.
Restaurant Details
Origin, like its name, pays tribute to the provenance and birthplace of its ingredients, establishing itself as a cornerstone of Osaka’s French dining scene. Sophisticated but approachable, Origin is a pillar of Osaka’s French dining scene helmed by France-trained chef Yoshida Tetsu, who worked as a sous chef in Jean-Francois Piege and made his solo debut in 2017.
Origin sticks mainly to Gallic standards with a seafood-focused approach inspired by Yoshida’s hometown of Yawatahama, Ehime Prefecture. Origin showcases his ability to blend creative techniques and flavors that highlight the best of local seafood. The menu might feature classic fine dining dishes, such as cheese risotto with sauteed foie gras and meat jus, but the bulk of its tasting menu is a selection of local catches, including sweet snapper from Ehime Prefecture served with Kashiwa cabbage, Hokkaido scallop carpaccio, and cuttlefish from Ehime. A standout offering is the soupe de poisson (fish soup) with crispy grilled tilefish, a signature dish of the restaurant.
The menu consists of a six-course meal available for both lunch and dinner, featuring seasonal appetizers and a beef main course. Reservations are highly recommended for groups at this Michelin-starred establishment.
