Kaiseki Okayama
Private-room kaiseki dining which harks back to the very beginning of the style, with dishes which look to its present and future.
Restaurant Details
On a quiet street in Matsuyama, a detached house with olive-green plaster walls stands out among the rest. This is the home of Kaiseki Okayama, a Michelin-starred traditional Japanese restaurant.
The owner-chef of Kaiseki Okayama once ran a more casual dining bar, but decided to make the move into elegant kaiseki, taking on the challenge of this complex and historic cuisine. His current restaurant only has private dining rooms, with tatami mats and low chairs for you to sit on the floor, Japanese style.
In these rooms, guests are treated to seasonal feasts, with dishes such as roast beef with blue radish, barracuda with miso, and traditional wagashi sweets (a nod to the traditional tea ceremonies from which the kaiseki craft is derived). Although the exact menu changes throughout the year, the creativity of the chef and his strong knowledge of tradition means that you’re always in for a treat at this one Michelin star restaurant.
