Ideal Bistro
Rich traditional French fare with homegrown seasonal vegetables and natural wines is the forte of the husband-wife duo behind Ideal Bistro.
Restaurant Details
The husband-wife team behind Ideal Bistro brings their respective skills to recreate traditional French cuisine with a personal touch. Having honed his craft at the Ritz Carlton Osaka French restaurant La Baie for sixteen years, Chef Yamazaki Hiroki has a keen eye for quality, only using vegetables from the couple’s home garden to ensure only the best seasonal ingredients. His florist wife, Kaori, provides charming seasonal flower arrangements for each table, with dried bouquets adorning the cool blue and white walls. Guests who dine here for an anniversary are gifted with a specially made bouquet to honor the occasion.
The prix fixe lunch course features classic salmon rillette or pate that makes for an exquisite marriage with one of Ideal Bistro’s natural wines. Attention is put on the slow-cooked duck thigh, first baked at low temperature until the meat is tender, and then grilled until the skin crisped up. Heavy on French ilk, white fish and meat put in good use of rich sauce, such as the oven-baked wild flounder sitting on a shallow pool of duglere sauce, or the Iwate beef with roasted turtle roe with shallot sauce.
Omakase dinner courses follow the traditional French order with simple artful plating and rich flavors. Summer diners can enjoy compote for dessert from peaches grown by the chef’s father in Wakayama. Lodged in the sequestered strip in Osaka’s Tanimachi neighborhood, dining is casually refined.
