Experience Details
Sushi and sake go together like cheese and wine. Pairing the right fish with the right sake is no easy feat. In this private dining experience, you can learn the basics of sushi and sake pairing, picking up tips and tricks that will be handy to pair with almost any dish.
For this experience, head to a quaint restaurant in Chigasaki, where the head sushi chef will prepare and serve an 8-piece Edomae sushi course. A knowledgeable sake sommelier will right by your side and pair your sushi with one of five rare varieties of sake. For each drink, the sommelier will explain their unique particularities and share some insights on pairing them with food so that your sips complement your bites every time, no matter the occasion.
The five rare varieties of sake you’ll get to taste: happoshu (a drink somewhat akin to beer but with a lower malt content), cold sake (to contrast the more common warm sake), kimoto, junmai and nigori (or cloudy sake). All have a particular finish and mouthfeel. The best way to learn which you gravitate toward is to try them all — and this experience is the perfect opportunity to do so. Beyond tasting, the sake sommelier will also teach how to read sake labels so you can navigate the liquor store like a pro the next time you’re looking to buy sake to drink at home.
This dining experience stands out because you’ll have the entire sushi restaurant to yourself and the chef and sommelier at your disposal. You’ll be able to ask questions directly to the professionals. Feed your curiosity and your stomach!
