Ramen, often considered Japan's soul food, is a beloved and iconic dish that has taken the world by storm. It consists of Chinese-style wheat noodles served in a flavorful broth with various toppings. The key to a great bowl of ramen lies in the broth, ranging from rich and creamy to clear and delicate. Today, you’ll make an original recipe from Nariko’s mother featuring homemade chicken stock and a shoyu (soy sauce) broth.
Gyoza, on the other hand, are the quintessential sidekick to ramen. These pan-fried dumplings are often served as an appetizer, making them the perfect partner to a steaming bowl of ramen. They consist of a thin wheat wrapper filled with a mixture of ground meat (commonly pork), cabbage, garlic, and ginger. The dumplings are pan-fried until golden, offering a delightful contrast to the soft, flavorful filling. You’ll make everything from scratch, from dough to fillings and a Japanese side dish.
