Experience Details
It is said that every country has its own dumplings, but there is something special about Japan’s gyoza, which are crispy, chewy, steamy, and comforting. In this cooking lesson, you’ll learn how to make gyoza and other Japanese home-cooking classic dishes, and enjoy them with local drinks with Shirley, a cooking instructor and local food business owner!
Shirley will show you how to cut out the gyoza wrappers and prepare meat and vegetables for the filling. You will then fill the wrappers and twist the ends to achieve their distinct shape! After frying and steaming gyoza, you will prepare two side dishes to complete the meal: tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet) and miso soup.
Next, it’ll be time to sit at the table to enjoy your homemade meal. You can pair it with craft beer from Kyoto or opt for homemade plum wine. You’ll notice that the gyoza is crispy outside, while the meat filling is juicy. This irresistible texture has made gyoza such a treasured comfort food in Japan — and it’s bound to be your favorite too!
Shirley is a well-traveled foodie who owns a takeout restaurant, Shirley’s Kitchen, where she prepares delicious Japanese dishes to go! She loves teaching home cooking in Kyoto and connecting with guests over a wholesome meal.
