Uosen Suisan Susukino
Fugu / Crab / Other Seafood
Hokkaido’s plump shellfish and seafood are as fresh as one can get at Sapporo’s Uosen Suisan, which serves them straight from the in-store tank.
Restaurant Details
The izakaya chain Uosen Suisan, which has built its empire across Japan, has always specialized in seafood, but its Susukino branch might be the best one yet. Situated near the lively Susukino Station, this branch takes full advantage of Hokkaido’s bountiful cold waters, sourcing plump catches fresh from the market each day. Shellfish, robust fish, and even fugu during the winter are kept in a tank on-site, prepared only moments after an order is placed to guarantee the freshest possible experience.
From chanko nabe—a hearty hot pot packed with proteins, vegetables, and mushrooms traditionally favored by sumo wrestlers to build strength—to sashimi, a variety of shellfish, including Japanese scallops and local Sakhalin surf clams, are featured in a seafood-centric feast. During select seasons, porridge is served with techiri, tiger pufferfish skin or crab miso. The meal might begin with a platter of king crab, snow crab, and sea urchin, followed by tempura of seasonal vegetables, shrimp and white fish.
Beyond ocean dwellers, Uosen Suisan Susukino is geared with land proteins. Gamecock and short ribs sizzle on tobanyaki, a ceramic grill, while chicken gets grounded and churned into delicious tsukune meatballs.
Uosen Suisan Susukino proposes an all-you-can-drink option to go with the food. A total of 91 seats are available, making it possible for big parties to organize special events.
