In spite of its unorthodox name (or perhaps because of it?) Title H was a restaurant that was greatly loved by the wagyu connoisseurs of Tokyo. It was the brainchild of chef Yutaka Narita, known nationwide for being the first Japanese chef to ever earn two Michelin stars in a French restaurant, Passage 53, and earned another two Michelin stars the next year while heading the kitchen of Le Grand Restaurant - Jean-Francois Piege.
Having closed in mid-2024 for a renovation and refresh of concept, Title H has since been reborn as Azabu Ryoriten Tokyo Wagyu Steak, at the same location just a block from Akabanebashi Station, near the Tokyo Tower.
The restaurant’s sole focus used to be the highly exclusive A5-grade Satsuma “Kiwami” wagyu beef from Kagoshima’s Minami-Satsuma Valley. However, with its change in concept, the menu at Azabu Ryoriten Wagyu Steak has since expanded to become a showcase of the finest meats from all over Japan. Chef Narita’s connections (and reputation!) afford him access to high-quality kuroge wagyu black beef from ranches and suppliers all over the country, including all three of Japan’s “Great Beefs:” Kobe beef, Matsusaka beef and Omi beef.
Nonetheless, while “wagyu steak” may be in the restaurant’s name, Chef Narita also makes ample use of hunted game like Yezo shika venison, wild boar and ducks. He takes these ingredients and makes them into cuisine that isn’t quite French, nor Japanese, nor Italian, but something that is entirely his own.
Just eight seats are available at Chef Narita’s counter. But these seats are constantly filled with his dedicated followers from his days at Title H, who know that a night at Azabu Ryoriten Tokyo Wagyu Steak is to have plate after plate full of excellently prepared cuts of some of the best meats available for purchase. Chef Narita has bolstered his reputation as an expert in creating romantic, sophisticated atmospheres, and his latest restaurant venture is no exception.
