Sushi Gion Matsudaya
Presenting Edo-style sushi, this restaurant is full of classic dishes combined with the chef’s very own intriguing ideas.
Restaurant Details
Just off the main streets of Gion in Hanamikoji, Gion Matsudaya serves Edo-style sushi that aims to put a smile on guests’ faces. The owner of this restaurant, Matsuda Kazunori, has all sorts of experience before opening his own restaurant. He’s spent countless times in Tokyo learning the traditional sushi craft of the city. He also has gained quite an insight from his travels abroad, like New York.
The omakase menu of Gion Matsudaya is never fixed. Chef Matsuda himself will choose the freshest ingredients at the local market every morning without fail. He prepares them using traditional techniques like soaking gizzard shad in vinegar and using mustard to garnish the marinated tuna nigiri. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll get to try the popular dishes that include fatty tuna, pickled tuna, and boiled eel nigiri.
On top of quality dishes, Gion Matsudaya’s warm hospitality is the icing on the cake of this restaurant. There’s no other perfect place than this restaurant to experience the conventional and unconventional.
