Shabu Gen
Premium freshly-cut meat and individual pots put the shabu shabu at this stylish Tokyo restaurant on another level.
Restaurant Details
Located in the Akasaka entertainment area of downtown Tokyo, this restaurant is famous for the high quality meat in their pork shabu-shabu — a dish which originated right here! The secret to the deep meaty flavor is the black pork from Satsuma.
You can also opt for premium Matsusaka beef with a low melting point in its fatty marbling. This makes the freshly cooked meat fall apart in the mouth once simmered in the rich hotpot broth. The owner sources this beef directly from handpicked farms.
Whichever meat you choose, they will only cut the thin strips once your order has been placed, making theirs some of the freshest shabu shabu hotpot meat in the city. This is cooked in an individual hotpot prepared for each diner, with copper kettles built into the large circular counter.
This counter fills up quick, so make your reservation in advance to guarantee your seat! Alternatively, table seats are available for groups of diners, with great views out onto the street below.
