Ryuen
Savor refined Shanghai cuisine, at a top Shinjuku restaurant with humble beginnings.
Restaurant Details
This Chinese restaurant specializes exclusively in Shanghai cuisine, made by a skillful chef that honed his craft in various other successful Shanghai-style restaurants prior to opening his own. Ryuen is nothing like the others though — it began as just a simple noodle shop, but through all the inspired ideas of the chef and influences from a variety of other cuisines, it evolved into a contemporary, creative Chinese restaurant.
Its evolution is continuous. The chef's marvelous ability to breathe life into the ingredients shines through not only the taste of the dishes but their arrangement as well. A great example is the pidan tofu, one of the most recommended on Ryuen’s menu.
While only course meals are offered here, be prepared for an array of dishes that include a variety of appetizers, spring rolls, stir-fries, and rice bowls. The closed-kitchen concept of Ryuen's interior space doesn't stop the chef from going out to the main dining floor and interacting with guests directly.
