OffReco Kuro
Step inside the high-design Japanese restaurant, where the marriage of land and sea from Toyama’s terroir sets the scene for its creative washoku course.
Restaurant Details
The mysterious structure emerges quietly in a secluded alley in Toyama, its gentle glow cutting through the silence. In this hidden spot, casual conversations unfold and lock in — what stays in OffReco stays, true to its name, "off the record."
Billing itself as a “guesthouse,” the restaurant has been a sanctuary for Toyama’s most elite —industry executives, celebrities and deep-pocketed foodies — seeking to escape prying eyes and enjoy candid conversations over exceptional cuisine.
Inside, two distinct dining venues coexist within a stunning space orchestrated by spatial designer Hashimoto Yukio. Its contemporary interior design is befitting of a much less accessible restaurant. A window frames a tranquil garden built over a water basin, where a pine tree and moss-covered boulder set a serene backdrop. Those with a keen eye will notice sculptural objects placed throughout the store, selected by Hashimoto, or the Gasso-style roof tatches. A gnarled poplar wood table, sealed with resins, serves as the stage for an approachable yet magical display of Toyama’s finest products.
Toyama is well known for its rich bounty of seafood and delicious ingredients sourced from the surrounding mountains. Depending on the season, OffReco Kuro's Japanese cuisine features a variety of prized ingredients and traditional cooking techniques. A blend of techniques from Italian, Chinese and French cuisine distinguishes Kuro’s washoku from other modern Japanese dining venues.
The name “OffReco” reflects its code of privacy. Every interaction is sealed like a lockbox, much like the shape of its building. Today, OffReco also opens its doors to those in the know.
Indulge in a creative Japanese course featuring seasonal dishes prepared using different cooking techniques, all while enjoying an off-the-record moment in a chic space with a garden view.
