Mikadoya
Enjoy local sweetfish specialties in a quaint riverside town at Mikadoya.
Restaurant Details
Over the mountains to the west of Hiroshima lies the small town of Nichihara. Seated alongside one of the rivers which snake through the valleys of the region, this town has access to some fantastic freshwater fish. The restaurant Mikadoya takes full advantage of this by specializing in local Ayu sweetfish.
All of their fish is sourced locally from the Takusagawa and Himi Rivers. At the height of the sweetfish season, when the fish is at its freshest, they serve it raw as sushi and sashimi. In other seasons they grill the fish, or bake it with soy sauce to lock the rich flavors deep inside the flesh.
The charmingly aged building has a traditional feel inside, with painted screen sliding doors and tatami mats. Don’t miss the chance to try wild, all-natural dishes from this gorgeous mountain region.
