Kushiage 010
The mind-blowingly creative kushiage at this Michelin-awarded joint makes a compelling case for why “fried things on a stick” can be exciting.
Restaurant Details
Even if they’re well versed in “fried things on a stick”, the kushiage (fried meat and vegetable skewers) lineup in this store is an ambitious tour around the world that holds epicureans on their thrall.
The sense of fun throughout its course menu is infectious. The Korean-inspired samgyeopsal (Korean pork belly) wrapped in perilla and lettuce makes it easy to understand why, as is the Taiwanese fried chicken and tandoori chicken in curry and yogurt sauce. Skewers of fried wild boar, puffer fish and beef sirloin are interspersed with other delights like the mini burger, stacked with gorgonzola cheese and grilled unagi (eel), and angel shrimp kushikatsu.
Sure, there’s a lot going on, but it’s delivered with such compelling flair that it feels more like a breezy bar than a fine dining hub. Naturally, there are excellent drinks to accompany the meal. The concept goes: one drink to start, another one midway and a final round to close the evening.
Perched on the fourth floor of a multi-tenant building close to Oebashi Bridge, Kushiage 010 gives an edge to the traditional street food beloved by the Osaka crowd.
