Gion Kawakami
Feel the essence of Kyoto that will linger not only on your taste buds, but also in your memory.
Restaurant Details
Not far from Hanamikoji Street in Gion is this humble restaurant run by a couple, with warm hospitality. Gion Kawakami prides itself in not only presenting Kyoto cuisine in its best possible form but also in embodying the spirit of Kyoto hospitality.
The building the restaurant is housed in was constructed over a hundred years ago, and even after renovation, the essence of the Taisho period history still remains connected and present around it, giving the restaurant a nostalgic vibe.
The owners of Gion Kawakami believe that color, form, and aesthetic sense play important roles in Japanese cuisine, and they construct their menus and plates accordingly. These change with the seasons, but might feature sea bream from the famous port of Akashi, snow crab, and a variety of other fresh seafood and ingredients.
Gion Kawakami is an ace all-rounder, from quality and taste to service and presentation.
