Gamou
A factory-cum-diner for some of the best chewy udon in Kagawa.
Restaurant Details
This Kagawa Prefecture udon shop is one of the highest rated in Japan. The business started out as a noodle shop, but over the years drew in a steady stream of diners asking to try their udon straight from the source, so they decided to open a restaurant.
Their sanuki udon is exemplary of the Kagawa style, with a chewy texture and filling density. You can enjoy them hot or cold, with a range of toppings including vegetables and tempura. The most popular bowl comes with a thin slice of fried tofu on top.
Once you’ve ordered and collected your noodles, take them to the kettle of dashi soup to pour the broth over yourself before loading up on spring onions and tempura flakes. The prefecture might have the highest number of udon shops in Japan, but Gamou can count itself among the very best.
