Fukiagean Kitashinchi
Farm-to-table fresh chicken is the highlight of this Kitashinchi restaurant. Try one-of-a-kind chicken sukiyaki with Kagoshima shochu or sake.
Restaurant Details
Fukiagean is famed all over Japan for its prized poultry: domestic jidori chicken from Kagoshima Prefecture. Almost every dish at the restaurant features the exceptional flavor of this versatile bird, which is one of the most famous breeds in a country already brimming with exceptionally tasty chicken.
With Satsuma jidori chicken sourced directly from their own Kagoshima farm, the restaurant’s most popular course menu features a tantalizing array of chicken dishes: sashimi, grilled dishes, and of course a variety of hotpot types, from Kyushu-style mizutaki to shabu-shabu to sukiyaki.
A dish usually made with beef and not chicken, the novel nature of the sukiyaki — a hotpot with a sweet broth (warishita) of mirin, dashi stock and soy sauce — is especially popular, imbuing the already-flavorful jidori with a whole new dimension of flavor. Guests can also complement their meal with over 90 varieties of shochu, sake, wines and even whiskies to round things out.
Chicken isn’t the only specialty at this restaurant: depending on the season, Fukiagean also offers some of the finest eel available in Japan, sourced from a longtime wholesaler that has been active since 1867. Regardless of the course menu of choice, friendly staff are always on hand to cook the food right before guests’ eyes. Guests can rest assured they know what they’re doing: each member undergoes extensive training, and must pass a special test before being allowed to work tableside service.
Located just off Midosuji Street, the Kitashinchi outlet of Fukiagean feels like a well-kept secret. Step inside and be greeted with warm smiles, comfortable sunken kotatsu seats, and a unique culinary journey.
