Perched on the 32nd floor of a towering skyscraper in Osaka, Chunagon offers stunning views of Osaka Port and draws in folks who gather for various celebrations: family gatherings, class reunions, weddings and anniversary parties.
Founded in 1950 by Seichi Tsutsumi, Chunagon has become a regional restaurant dynasty, renowned for celebrating one item: the ise-ebi, or Japanese spiny lobster.
Every day, fresh shipments of Japanese spiny lobster arrive, promptly stored in the restaurant's aquarium. Freshness is paramount, so the shellfish are only selected by the chef when it's time for preparation.
Whether steamed, grilled, or fried, Chunagon's high-luxe shellfish is presented with exquisite artistry. For the sashimi, each lobster undergoes a meticulous ritual: a gentle wash with chilled sake to heighten its natural sweetness and meat texture. Chunagon’s signature salad is assembled with boiled lobster and the house-special dressing made with miso — a recipe that has been preserved and passed down since its inception. A standout experience at Chunagon's is the 'odarayaki,' where Japanese spiny lobster is grilled live before your eyes.
