Bocca del Vino
An all-day trattoria with Michelin backing, Chef Nomiya transports diners to Italy through his restaurant’s classical atmosphere and authentic food.
Restaurant Details
Its red-brick facade and gently swinging signboard are the first indications that Bocca del Vino is more than a city-adopted trattoria. After apprenticing in Rome and being moved by the local lifestyle, Chef Nomiya Akimasa was eager to bring the local dining tradition to Kyoto. Guests are treated to a genuine reflection of what it’s like to eat, drink and be merry in Italy
Kyoto’s vegetables, with their rich history of cultivation, are proud features in Bocca del Vino’s menu, but its backbone is still inherently Italian cuisine. Foodies might come bright and early to catch the fresh batch of his breakfast lineup. Maritozzo donuts and morning coffee service have earned it a domestic reputation that may even surpass its Michelin status. At lunchtime, the menu shifts to Roman fares, with offerings like tiramisu and tonnarelli pasta. In the evening, the wine flows in and sits alongside the local spread meant to be shared.
Somewhat irregular business hours, a shifting menu, and an intimate space all come together to recreate the Italian way of life in Kyoto.
