An authentic taste of the sweets of Normandy, near Tokyo’s museum hotspot.

Restaurant Details

Named after the town of Avranches in France where the owner was trained, this patisserie has an extensive range of sweets to suit any occasion, whether it’s a full-on celebration or just a light afternoon treat.

The shop is near Kasuga Station, to the west of Ueno Park, so it can be accessed fairly easily from central Tokyo. Alongside the wide range of petit gateaux, they also have boxes of fruit-shaped chocolates with such glossy, colorful finishes that they look like glazed ceramic antiques.

If you’re struggling to choose, think about giving the Mont-Dol a try: a cream cheese and Camembert mousse cake named after a town in Normandy. If you’re preparing for a celebration, you’ll be sure to impress your guests when you serve them up a giant pistachio macaron packed with raspberries.
