Experience Details
Udon and tempura taste good enough separately but it's easy to see why they're often enjoyed together in Japan. A bowl with thick and chewy noodles floating on a smooth broth (udon) pairs perfectly with freshly deep-fried battered vegetables (tempura), a marriage of flavors and textures packed with umami and a lovely crisp. You can learn how to cook this classic Japanese food combination with help from expert cooking instructors in this hands-on class in central Nagoya.
Only 15 minutes by train from Nagoya Station or about 20 minutes walking from Nagoya Castle, you’ll find Yuka and Hitomi’s state-of-the-art cooking studio, where you'll have a brief overview of the class and recipes before you get hands-on cooking.
Yuka and Hitomi, your hosts, use local, seasonal ingredients and fresh produce in their classes. Before cooking, you'll savor soup stock (dashi) and seasonings like soy sauce and mirin, brewed locally in Aichi Prefecture. You'll then assemble your bowl of udon with various toppings and deep-fry tempura, then enjoy both in a lively meal with your classmates and hosts. Take photos and receive a take-home recipe booklet to relive the experience and satisfy your noodle and tempura cravings anytime.
