Experience Details
Many of the foods that have cemented Japan's culinary fame are decidedly not halal, but that doesn't mean that there is no way for Muslim visitors to enjoy Japanese cuisine. In this unique cooking experience and supermarket visit, you’ll learn to make delicious halal ramen and gyoza and deepen your understanding of Japanese home cooking, including seasonings and ingredients, in a dedicated space for Muslim visitors.
Upon meeting your host, your first stop will be a local supermarket where your knowledgeable host will introduce you to quintessential Japanese seasonings and ingredients. You'll gain valuable insights into identifying crucial details in food tags such as the characters for "pork" and "alcohol," enabling you to easily find halal ingredients. You'll also familiarize yourself with fresh vegetables and commonly used Japanese seasonings.
After the supermarket visit, it'll be time to move to the kitchen and start cooking! Under your host's guidance, you'll learn to make a hearty ramen noodle dish topped with halal-certified grilled chicken and seasonal vegetables. You'll also make crispy gyoza dumplings filled with meat and vegetables to complement this flavorful dish. Once the cooking is ready, you will enjoy your hearty meal over conversation with your host and wrap up the meal with a delightful green tea pudding.
Dedicated to halal cooking, your host is meticulous and knowledgeable about halal cuisine, using only halal-certified meats and ensuring every seasoning is safe for Muslim guests. Their attention to detail extends beyond the ingredients: the venue has a designated area for salat, with prayer mats provided, and a space for performing Wudu prayer comfortably. She also has a valuable collection of tableware that is over 100 years old.
This experience provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for Muslim participants to immerse in the art of Japanese cuisine and try their hand at making some of its famous dishes.
