If you’re craving a home cooked meal while in Tokyo and are also keen on making new friends, this shabu shabu cooking experience is for you. In a quiet suburb near Ikebukuro, you’ll step into a Tokyo local's kitchen to make this comforting dish. You’ll cook wagyu beef, pork loin, tofu, vegetables and mushrooms in an umami-rich broth and enjoy shabu shabu the traditional way together. Your host will also serve one or two glasses of ume soda for you to enjoy with your meal.
More than a cooking class, this is an invaluable chance to meet locals and learn cultural insights like the significance of shabu shabu, the proper table setting when serving it, and tips on how to enjoy this delicious meal to the fullest. Your friendly host, Mika, a licensed chef and food education instructor passionate for sharing her love of Japanese cooking with guests from all over the world.
Itinerary
-Meet your host and walk to her home, enjoying fresh air and conversation along the way
-Arrive at the venue and go over the flow of the day over Japanese tea and senbei rice crackers
-Ingredient preparation: Your host will demonstrate how to cut the vegetables and introduce the sauces used in shabu shabu
-Table setting: Set the table to enjoy your hot pot meal and learn the etiquette and manners involved
-Enjoy your delicious shabu shabu together and finish the meal by adding ramen into the pot.
Inclusions
Senbei rice crackers and a cup of Japanese green tea (fukamushi sencha)
All ingredients and utensils to make shabu shabu hot pot, including 150g of wagyu beef, 150g of pork loin, vegetables, mushrooms and ramen noodles
Rice, one or two glasses of ume soda (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and seasonal fruit

Meet your host in front of the ticket vending machine at Heiwadai Station (Yurakucho/Fukutoshin Lines). Heiwadai Sta. is 10 min. from Ikebukuro and 20 min. from Shinjuku. More information and a Google Maps link will be shared upon booking.
Remarks
Upon entering the instructor’s home, you'll be asked to remove your shoes and switch to guest slippers. Please be sure to bring your own socks.
Please arrive at the meeting point at least 10 minutes before the lesson begins.
The lesson may run longer based on class progress, so plan for some extra time in case of delays.
