Experience Details
Vegan food is still relatively under the radar in Japan, and while it’s becoming popular in major cities like Tokyo, it takes effort and research to find. Well, our vegan friends, never fear!
Join Saeko – a professional chef, food stylist, and recipe developer – for a vegan ramen and gyoza cooking class in Osaka! You’ll learn to make creamy vegan ramen (from broth to toppings), and crispy vegan gyoza (from wrappers to fillings), then enjoy your handmade meal.
Saeko began her Japanese home cooking journey in 2018 when she opened her studio in Osaka. Prior to this, she traveled extensively (to over 21 countries) and had a stint working as a Japanese chef in Denmark. These overseas experiences sparked Saeko’s interest in connecting with other cultures through food, having taught over 500 foreign students. After her Denmark adventure ended, she returned to Osaka – her home city – and developed her own series of cooking classes (which you’ll get to experience today).
Your vegan cooking adventure takes place in Saeko’s home kitchen. After greeting you warmly, Saeko will apron you up and guide you to your cooking station. You’ll make creamy vegan ramen, including broth and various vegan toppings. Once you’ve assembled your bowl, it’s time to move on to the gyoza! You’ll learn how to make vegan gyoza wrappers and fillings, then move them into the pan for a fry. Ramen and gyoza are quintessential Japanese foods, but vegan variations are harder to come by!
Once you’ve chopped, sliced, filled, rolled, wrapped, and fried your tasty foods, you’ve earned a break. Take a seat and enjoy your handmade vegan creations, sharing laughs and a meal with your fellow classmates and Saeko. But wait, the magic doesn’t end there! Savor a sweet dessert and take home an English-language recipe booklet to recreate these vegan dishes for your friends and family back home.
Please note that this class might be held at the same time as a non-vegan class.
