Well-known worldwide for their convenience and cuteness, these boxes are a great way to get creative and enjoy a varied and balanced meal.
In this Osaka bento box-making class, you will craft your own bento box filled with regional ingredients. Led by an insightful English-speaking chef and host, you will learn how to achieve an authentic Japanese bento. But first, you’ll start with a visit to your chef’s favorite shops to meet local vendors and learn about products unique to Osaka and Japan. With language assistance from your chef, you can ask questions and enjoy shopping before getting hands-on experience preparing each element for your bento box.
During the bento-making class, the chef will teach how to make three classic bento staples: tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet), karaage (fried chicken) and miso soup. You will learn about the Osaka style of cooking and the traditional techniques needed to execute these three delicious foods perfectly.
After cooking, your chef will demonstrate how to arrange the food elements into your bento box to create a beautiful harmony. Don’t forget to take photos with your creations before sitting down to enjoy the meal. Your hosts are passionate about sharing their knowledge of bento boxes and Japanese cuisine, so feel free to ask them any questions you might have! After the class, you will receive the recipes to take home with you to recreate your bento box anytime.
