Experience Details

In Japan, sake is integral to casual izakaya dinners, hanami parties, weddings, and even funerals. This traditional drink is made by fermenting rice, and each brewery uses different methods, resulting in a wide variety of flavor notes and recommended food pairings. But with so many choices available, you might wonder how to find the type of sake that best suits your taste. A sake tasting gives you the opportunity to try several kinds and learn what makes them different to find the one that tickles your fancy. Join your guide for a short but sweet sake tasting in Nara, a city believed to be the birthplace of modern sake. Here, sake brewing methods have evolved in unique ways, resulting in fine brews distinct to the region. In this tour, your guide will take you to a local izakaya bar specializing in sake, where you will try five different types of locally produced sake and learn about the history, cultural significance and nuances of Japan's national drink. After this introduction, you will journey onto another izakaya bar, where you can order your new favorite sake yourself for a separate fee. Nara is a great place to learn about Japanese sake and taste local varieties, and your host will ensure you get all the knowledge you need to start your sake journey. Kanpai!
