Experience Details
Nerikiri, those stunning confections you've admired in Japanese sweet shops, can now be your own masterpiece. These delicate treats enchant with their charming colors and shapes, and taste delicious with their smooth texture and elegant sweetness. Nerikiri is a traditional Japanese wagashi, a sweet treat often savored during tea ceremonies.
Dive into the history of nerikiri, born during the Edo period when the cost of sugar dropped, sparking a confectionery renaissance in Japan. Skilled artisans vied to create exquisitely shaped sweets, giving birth to these edible works of art, now gracing tea ceremonies and special occasions.
Meet your expert guide, Nariko, a food connoisseur who shares her love of cooking and baking. With a passion that began in her mother's kitchen and led her to cooking classes worldwide, spreading culinary joy is the dream! Nariko is a graduate of a patisserie course at Tsuji Culinary Institute and sushi training at the Tokyo Sushi Academy. She's even a certified decorative sushi instructor.
But this isn't your ordinary nerikiri class for tourists. Nariko's here to teach you the intricate techniques and skills behind crafting one-of-a-kind nerikiri creations. You'll master various shaping and design methods while gaining insights into the tools needed and where to find them. During this 3-hour experience, create five distinctive Nerikiri designs using various tools and techniques. Plus, discover the art of table-style matcha making, learning how to prepare and savor this traditional Japanese green tea.
