Moving onto the miso-making, your experience occurs in a cozy Japanese home in Arima Onsen. Here, we'll use fresh, locally sourced ingredients to craft your own batch of miso! Miso is a traditional Japanese product that ferments soybeans, salt, and often grains like rice or barley. The mixture is left to ferment for several months to years, resulting in a paste with a rich, savory flavor known as "umami." Miso is a versatile ingredient used in soups, sauces, marinades, and dressings in Japanese cuisine, adding depth and complexity to dishes.
In less than an hour, you'll gain a profound understanding of miso-making's history and cultural significance and uncover the fascinating fermentation process that imparts miso with its unique flavor.
