Experience Details
Join us for a captivating walking tour through the charming neighborhoods of Kita-Senju & Shibamata, located in the northeastern region of Tokyo, where the ambiance of old-town Tokyo continues to thrive!
We’ll kick off our adventure by meeting at Senju-ohashi Station. From there, our tour will continue to…
Adachi Market: Adachi Fish Market, Tokyo's sole specialized marine products market, is a world away from the tourist crowds. After working up an appetite at the market, we'll head to the on-site cafeteria to tuck into some delectable local seafood.
Shibamata Station: Our next destination, Shibamata, is a fifteen-minute train ride from Senju-ohashi Station. Planted along the banks of the Edogawa River, Shibamata is a picturesque old-style town that exudes the nostalgic charm of old Tokyo.
Shibamata Taishakuten: Prepare to be mesmerized by the intricate wood-carved sculptures adorning the main hall, depicting the Lotus Sutra story. The temple also features an ikebana garden, showcasing the exquisite Japanese art of flower arranging.
Yamamoto-tei: A two-story architectural gem seamlessly blending Japanese and Western elements. Wander through the Japanese garden featuring a "Shogun Garden" design, complete with a waterfall near the fence, lush greenery, and a picturesque hill.
Edogawa Riverbed: As the tour concludes, ascend the banks of the Edogawa River, located behind Yamamoto-tei. From there, you'll be treated to a captivating view of the distant Tokyo Sky Tree.
Taishakuten-Sando: Along the 200-meter stretch from Shibamata Station to Shibamata Taishakuten, you'll traverse a wonderfully old-fashioned main street. Here, you'll encounter traditional Japanese sweet shops, buckwheat noodle eateries, and a tapestry of activity like no other. Riverfront fish restaurants specializing in dishes like eel and carp add to the lively atmosphere.
