Experience Details

Take a break from exploring the sights of Osaka and get ready to learn all about Japanese home cooking in a homely cooking class. Guided by two friendly hosts, Arisa and Maya, you’ll make onigiri rice balls, rolled omelet (tamagoyaki), miso soup, karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and traditional Japanese sweets. After lunch, you’ll enjoy the sweets you made with matcha green tea. Meet with your hosts and go together to the cooking venue near Umeda for a class briefing and self-introduction. Then you’ll put on an apron and get to work! Experiment with fillings, learn how to mold rice into the iconic triangular shape of onigiri rice balls and wrap them in seaweed. Next, cook karaage, fold a tamagoyaki rolled omelet and prepare miso soup to complete your hearty meal. After you feast on your hard work, Arisa and Maya will walk you through a casual tea ceremony where you’ll enjoy freshly brewed matcha green tea with wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) you prepared yourself. Arisa and Maya are two sisters born in Canada and raised in Osaka. They inherited a love of cooking from their grandmother, who owned a shabu-shabu (Japanese hot pot) restaurant. Combined with a passion for travel and food, they go above and beyond to bring guests the ultimate Japanese food experience in a fun, casual atmosphere. Experience flow: - Meet your hosts at the meeting point 15 minutes before the experience starts - Move to the cooking venue - Class briefing and self-introduction - Make food and Japanese sweets - Enjoy your meal - Enjoy matcha with Japanese sweets
