This experience combines two popular reservation-only offerings at The Ritz-Carlton Nikko: a mesmerizing fire ritual and a tour of a historic temple, complemented by a kaiseki dining course that captures the essence of Tochigi's regional cuisine.
Immerse yourself in the meditative atmosphere of Chuzenji Temple, a sanctuary dating back to 784 near the serene waters of Lake Chuzenji. Here, you will follow the monks' ancient practice of writing meditation by copying sutra or key Buddhist imagery to bring wellness and fortune. Then, witness an engaging fire ritual, where rhythmic chanting and the leaping flames of holy cedar will transport you to an otherworldly scene.
Round off your morning with a tour of the temple's main hall before enjoying an elegant kaiseki meal in the hotel's dining room. You'll feast on exquisite ingredients from partner farms and dine on ceramicware from local artisans. The delicate art of kaiseki course dining is brought to life by the regional quality of unique mashiko-yaki ware and a delectable, top-tier cuisine infused with Tochigi spirit.
