Experience Details
Izakaya (Japanese pubs) are an important pillar of Japanese nightlife, with friends or colleagues gathering together at the end of the day to clink glasses and eat a variety of food from an expansive menu. Izakaya culture emphasizes sharing, with people usually ordering several different dishes to share around the table.
In this cooking class, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of izakaya culture as you learn to make three classic dishes with skilled instructors at a real izakaya restaurant in Kyoto. Grill yakitori (chicken skewers), learn how to shape and customize onigiri (rice balls) with various fillings and master the art of the sweet and savory dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet).
When your spread of delicious izakaya food is complete, sit down and raise your glass for a kanpai (cheers), just like the locals do. You’ll enjoy your delicious meal together with your hosts and other participants.. To commemorate your experience, you’ll also get to take home the bandana you’ll wear while cooking.
