Experience Details
The art of tea ceremony, or sado, is a wonderful way to experience traditional Japanese culture. Combining zen and Japanese tea, attending a tea ceremony is a must when visiting Japan! However, some may be intimidated by the solemn atmosphere, or uncomfortable sitting on tatami mats on the ground. Luckily, this tea ceremony is performed with your comfort in mind.
In this experience, the traditional tea ceremony can be enjoyed at a table as opposed to on a tatami floor. Avoid lower back pain or numbness in your legs that can come from sitting on the floor, and enjoy a peaceful tea ceremony without any discomfort. Perfect for those who may have bad backs, knees, or legs.
The tea master will perform the tea ceremony, including a demonstration using a tray called a “bonryakutemae”. Beginners are welcome to join and learn how to perform the ceremony. Prepare matcha tea and enjoy with Japanese sweets. With step-by-step instructions in a casual atmosphere, there aren’t any barriers to learning this traditional art.
You will also learn how to make tea at home, even if you don’t have traditional tea utensils, so you can enjoy matcha after your trip.
