Experience Details
Step on board an elegant boat for a private dinner cruise and autumnal moon-viewing experience in Arashiyama, Kyoto. This exclusive opportunity is limited across 3 days during Japan’s Tsukimi Festival: 29 September-1 October. Enjoy the Arashiyama river scenery, participate in Tsukimi (moon-viewing) festivities, indulge in a luxurious A4 grade (or higher) beef sukiyaki meal, enjoy traditional performances, and more.
Arashiyama in Kyoto is one of Japan’s most beloved cultural destinations for travelers and locals alike. While the area’s beauty is timeless, it transforms into a moonlit dreamscape during Tsukimi (moon-viewing) season. Held during the autumn full moon, Tsukimi is an age-old tradition and a time to appreciate the moon's splendor and a tribute to the changing seasons. And what better way to experience this enchanting festival than aboard a yakatabune in Arashiyama?
Journey to a bygone era as you board a yakatabune alongside an expert guide dressed in traditional Japanese garments. Yakatabune–translating to “roofed boat”–dates back to the Heian period and was originally used by nobles and aristocrats for leisurely outings. You’ll enjoy the Arashiyama river scenery while enjoying Heian period entertainment including traditional Japanese performing arts and shinobue (Japanese flute) performances by esteemed Japanese artists, Awa and Kazuya Sato.
On board, you’ll feast on some of Japan’s finest beef with an A4 grade (or higher) sukiyaki course from a team of renowned chefs. Sukiyaki is a beloved hot pot dish that features thin slices of beef cooked in a simmering broth with sliced vegetables and other ingredients. A4-grade Japanese beef is the height of luxury, and while it typically comes with a hefty price tag, this experience allows you to dine like royalty for a reasonable price.
