Restaurant Details

Tempura can be just as refined as Edomae sushi. The course meals at Tempura Iwai are the ultimate testament to that. Some of the best tempura in Tokyo is served at this restaurant. Dine in a fully traditional Japanese setting as you watch the chef prepare the finest tempura dishes.

The chef uses Taihaku sesame oil for frying with the aim of achieving a lighter batter, resulting in a perfectly crisp tempura coating for the ingredients. Said ingredients are sourced directly from the Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market, and the menu changes according to what the best picks of the day are.

The appetizer consists of bamboo shoots and scallops laced with wasabi — a refreshing warm-up before the main sequence: a delectable series of tempura pieces served up one after the other. One of the best pieces is the sea urchin tempura, which is only slightly cooked on the inside so the creamy texture can be enjoyed.

From the impeccable service to the pleasant surprises in the seasonal menu, Tempura Iwai provides the rich umami flavors that the tempura hunters of Tokyo crave.
