The story of wagyu unfolds through various cuts and thicknesses, whether in sukiyaki or shabu-shabu, at this traditionally stunning Kyoto restaurant.

Restaurant Details

Nestled in Kyoto's vibrant Kawaramachi area, this restaurant is a haven for sukiyaki and shabu-shabu lovers. The main highlight is, as it should be, the premium Japanese Black beef, or kuroge wagyu, but surrounding this centerpiece are other exquisite proteins worthy of its status.

Sourcing only the finest local A5 wagyu with exceptional marbling, Sukiyaki Gyunabe Chikarayama Shijo Kawaramachi excels in delivering authentic Kansai-style sukiyaki. Unlike the Kanto style, where the meat simmers in a warishita broth, Kansai-style sukiyaki is more akin to grilling. The beef is sliced into thick 2-centimeter blocks or 2-milimeter-thin layers, cooked in an iron pot. Each cut is tailored to its ideal shape and thickness based on the cooking method. For a broader experience, diners can indulge in the shabu-shabu course, featuring Japanese black beef and Kagoshima’s Chamiton pork, paired with seasonal vegetables.

Top off with Sapporo Premium Yebisu Beer, a diverse selection of sake, shochu, or wine (including a 12-year-old Yamazaki whiskey), perfect for pairing with your meal. With three seating options from counter and table seats to traditional tatami rooms, this venue is ideal for gatherings with groups and intimate celebrations.
