Seimonbarai
At this Fukuoka restaurant you can devour seafood so fresh that it’s still moving on your plate!
Restaurant Details
This seafood restaurant is named after a term used in old Hakata to refer to customer appreciation. Seimonbarai is not far from Canal City in Fukuoka and promises only the freshest fish and seafood from the prefecture as well as other parts of Japan — so fresh that live squids are displayed in tanks outside the entrance, and other ingredients are kept alive in the back until ordered.
Ingredients can be served grilled or broiled, and even raw. Because the availability of the ingredients depends on what is peak during the season, you'll never know what's up for grabs on the menu till you take a seat. The sashimi includes live lobster sashimi that's so fresh it's still moving when served. Other popular dishes include the seafood platter as well as seasonal fresh oysters and clams.
If you're not too keen on ingredients moving in your dish, request for them to be fully cooked to avoid any unpleasant surprises. The staff at Seimonbarai are extremely accommodating. Meat dishes like Itoshima roast beef, char-grilled free-range chicken, Hakata mentaiko, handmade croquettes, and kushiyaki are also on the menu.
